Essential Oils for Headaches

Grapeseed Oil is what is known as a carrier oil in the realm of aromatherapy; it is what you will blend the essential oils with when you want to apply them directly to the skin. Grapeseed oil is perfect as a carrier oil; it is light, odorless and won’t clog pores.
These oils can be used together as a massage oil, inhaled or used in a bath. Here are some possible recipes to for using htese essential oils for headaches:
-Mix 5 drops of lavender and 1 drop of peppermint into 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil. Massage neck, shoulders, forehead and/or temples.
-Add 3 drops of lavender or 3 drops of peppermint to a cotton ball, handkerchief or piece of cloth and inhale the essence deeply from the cloth every few minutes until the headache has subsided.
-Add 3 drops of lavender or 3 drops of peppermint to a hot or cold compress and lay over the forehead or eye area. Lay down and relax.
-Add 5-8 drops of lavender, peppermint or a mixture of both oils to a warm bath. Soak the headache away.
The above recipes can be used for quick relief while sitting at your desk, such as the recipe for adding the oils to a cotton ball, or taken longer to utilize and feel the full effects of at home in the evening, such as using them in a bath.

Allergy test: Take the oil mix and dab it a bit on your abdomen. Wait for few hours to see if you are allergic to it. In case, you find that you are allergic to it or feel that it is burning your skin then apply more carrier oil to that area to reduce the effect of the essential oil. However, if you don't find any side effect then that oil mix is safe for use.
Diluting essential oils: Essential oils are highly concentrated and most of the time require a carrier oil when being applied directly to the skin. A carrier oil isn’t needed for applications that are inhaled, such as when adding a few drops of lavender to a cloth and inhaling deeply to encourage relaxation.
