5 Ways to Stay Healthy During the Summer
Summer is a time to relax and enjoy the outdoors! Many people feel healthier and happier overall during the summer months than they do in the winter. There are several factors that play a role in staying healthy all summer long. Here are 5 ways to do so:
Eat Raw and Wild Foods. Cooking foods destroys vital nutrients and adds chemicals that our bodies don’t need. Several fruits and vegetables are in season during the summer, so it’s a great time to take advantage of them. Salads and smoothies are a great way to start. They are easy to prepare and reasonable in price. By eating more raw fruits and veggies, you will provide your body with the nutrients it needs to do all of those fun summer activities.
Along with eating raw foods, you can also try eating foods that grow by themselves in the wild, such as blueberries. All berries are full of nutrients and antioxidants, and they grow naturally all over the world. It shouldn’t be hard for you to find some close to your backyard! You can find out what other foods grow wild in your area that you can put use to. Certain parts of plants taste great in salads and can be put through juicers for a healthy snack.
Protect your Skin. Spending hours upon hours in the sun puts you at risk for skin cancer and other unpleasant skin conditions. It can cause early aging of the skin and undesirable sunspots. The best way to protect yourself is by using sunscreen and covering up. Reapply sunscreen whenever you sweat or get wet. Although sunshine is the best way to get vitamin D, you only need about 10 minutes of sun every day for your body to produce it.
Drink Water. It is likely that you’re sweating more often in the hot summer months. That is why it’s crucial to drink plenty of water, as you should all year long. Dehydration is common in the summer which can lead to heat stroke, which is dangerous. Staying hydrated will help you to feel energized and ready to go.
Exercise. Have you been aspiring to get in shape all year long, but haven’t been able to do so because of the weather? Summer is a great chance to get outside and enjoy physical activity. It’s the perfect season to get into healthy habits, especially exercise. The possibilities are endless—you can ride a bike, rollerblade, go for a run/jog/walk, skateboard, etc…Exercising every day will improve your health and well-being.
By following all of these tips, you will be in tip-top shape all summer long. You will be less likely to get sick and feel more energized to do the things you love.
