Pastures used to contain many different types of grasses and plants that provided beneficial bacteria and nutrients for horses. Because most of today's pastures only contain a few varieties of plants and grasses, there is not enough variety to naturally provide the optimal amount of probiotics necessary to support horses' digestive needs when their systems need extra support. Horses mainly live on grass, which provides them with nutrients by fermenting in the gut. Fermentation depends on microorganisms that live in the large intestine, so probiotics help horses' digestion work at optimal levels by keeping the microorganisms healthy and flourishing. Many owners are realizing that improving their horse's digestion helps improve their overall health, and also reduces the amount of feed needed to maintain a healthy weight.
Many factors can effect the number microorganisms in the gut. Some are stress-related, such as showing, transportation, foaling and weaning, and some are health-related such as antibiotic treatment, deworming, and vaccination. Many of these factors result in problems with proper digestion or assimilation of nutrients. This can result in weight problems, skin and hoof problems, and other health problems, such as diarrhea.
DFM-EQ Powder™ is a stabilized source of lactic acid bacteria. It is formulated to be used during times of stress, such as during birth and weaning, weather changes, changes in rations, or following antibiotic treatment. It is also effective for relieving digestive stress due to competition, travel, and performance.
One direct fed microbial alone does not provide all the health benefits desired, so DFM-EQ Powder contains unique microbial PS strains for unrivaled benefits of four species of live naturally occurring lactic acid bacteria, which include three species of Lactobacillus, acidophilus, plantarum, casei, along with Enterococcus faecium. It also contains yeast to further improve gut absorption.

Effective equine gut balancer
After much research and trying several other well-known, vet -recommended probiotics to remedy continued low grade colic and frequent diarrhea in my 21 year old stallion I finally succeeded in balancing his gut flora with the DFM-EZ powder. A review of the ingredients showed it to be superior in potency and quality. It does not contain a bunch of cheap sugars to acidify the gut either. The proof of efficacy was in my horse's return to health.
DFM EQ has been a big help
I've had several horses experience diarrhea at shows, and even for a while after. I started using this product for about a week before the shows, and continue to use it for about a week after, and it has really helped. So much easier cleaning out the trailor!
