Jarro-Dophilus EPS® is specifically designed to restore, maintain, and protect intestinal flora. The probiotics are combined with a gel-forming matrix that protects them during transit through the stomach, so that they are released where they are used most effectively, in the small intestine.

This supplement is made up of eight different strains of probiotic bacteria that are chosen from four genera, Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Pediococcus. These strains support healthy intestinal micro flora, which then promotes intestinal health and immune function. Bifidobacterium longum is most often the main bacterium found in humans, and it works to keep the digestive system running smoothly. It blocks the growth of harmful bacteria and also boosts the immune system. Lactobacillus rhamnosus has been proven to tolerate the acidic conditions of the stomach and the bile acids of the small intestine. It works by colonizing the digestive tract and balancing intestinal micro flora. Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus plantarum all ferment lactose into lactic acid. Lactobacillus acidophilus helps to improve gut absorption and maintain the proper amount gut flora. It has also been shown to be effective in preventing yeast infections in the upper digestive tract, and it is especially effective against those caused by Candida albicans. Lactobacillus casei assists in the growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus and also assists the body in propagation of healthy bacteria, while the body needs to have Lactobacillus plantarum for its production of lactic acid.
