2) Consider Probiotics.
Everyone’s digestive systems needs “good bacteria” to help get rid of “bad bacteria” and toxins that could possibly harm us. Antibiotics and stress are two culprits that suppress beneficial bacteria. You can take probiotics in the form of a supplement but they are also added to some food items, like yogurt. There are a great deal of digestive supplments to choose from to not only help current symptoms but also the underlying cause.
3) Fiber, Fiber, Fiber.
Fiber is extremely important for the digestive system to keep waste moving out of your body. It also feeds healthy bacteria and helps them flourish. Aim to get at least 25 grams of fiber per day. Rich sources of dietary fiber include: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. If you eat a variety of these every day, you should be getting enough fiber.
4) Rethink Your Diet. Whether you like it or not, certain foods can interfere with healthy digestion. Coffee, alcohol, and processed foods do more harm than good to our digestive systems. They also contain few nutrients, which isn’t good for anyone’s health. Instances of heartburn, constipation, acid reflux, and other stomach problems are higher in individuals who eat too many foods that lack nutrients.
5) What About Medications and Supplements?
Several common digestive problems such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea and heartburn can be caused by medications. If your symptoms don’t improve with changes in your diet, ask your doctor if your medications may be causing side effects. Never stop taking a medication without consulting with a doctor first. If you take any vitamin or mineral supplements, ask your doctor about those too because they can often be a culprit of digestive issues as well.
