Calming Formula is a supplement that contains ingredients that work together to support a normal behavior pattern for dogs who are responding to environmentally-induced stress or exhibit other signs of discontentment, hyperactivity, or nervousness. The supplement contains a combination of phytonutrients, plant-derived nutrients, and other compounds such as valerian, ginger, lecithin, thiamine.

Valerian is an herb that has been used to combat anxiety for hundreds of years. It can also be used to ease stomach cramps, which can be a side-effect of nervousness. Ginger is also an herb, and the rhizome, or underground stem, is often used as a medicine to treat various types of stomach issues relating to anxiety, including diarrhea, gas, nausea, and upset stomach. Lecithin has been used to treat hyperactivity and is very calming to the nervous system. The fatty covering that coats nerve endings, called the myelin sheath, is mainly composed of lecithin. The nervous system is affected by the breakdown of the fatty covering of the nerves, so taking lecithin in a supplement helps to nourish the fatty sheaths covering the nerve fibers. Thiamine is a B Vitamin that has effects on all of the body's tissues, the most sensitive being the nerves and stomach.

  1. Calming Formula for Dogs for Thunderphobic dog review by CLMcDan

This product is being used as an alternative to help our adopted dog, Addie, through her fear of thunder and other loud noises. This product seems to contain the best combination of herbs and supplements that relieve anxiety and stress and the least amount of inactive ingredients. This product has also been the most effective for her anxiety and stress and our budget. Because the product is all natural she can have them as "treats" through the day and while it's NOT "cure" for her fear IT DOES help her stay calm enough to allow us to "console" her during a storm. I would recommend this product versus the alternative of medication but also in combination with behavior modification. Please note we use this product almost daily but during a storm or loud events dress he in her Thundershirt, too. (Posted on 11/16/11)

  2. This has helped so much... review by T.H.

My dog Claire was adopted from a shelter that rescued her from a puppy mill. She is some kind of poodle mix, so she needs to be groomed, but when we got her, it was almost impossible because she was so traumatized. I did some research on natural calmers, and tried a few. One of them almost totally knocked her out, which really scared me, and I was going to get a prescription from the vet when a friend told me about this supplement. It is such a big help. I give it to her before her grooming appointments, and it works perfectly. It took a little trial and error to get the timing down just right, but now that we do, I will never bring her in wothout it. It works miracles. (Posted on 5/11/11)
