Valerian is an herb that has been used to combat anxiety for hundreds of years. It can also be used to ease stomach cramps, which can be a side-effect of nervousness. Ginger is also an herb, and the rhizome, or underground stem, is often used as a medicine to treat various types of stomach issues relating to anxiety, including diarrhea, gas, nausea, and upset stomach. Lecithin has been used to treat hyperactivity and is very calming to the nervous system. The fatty covering that coats nerve endings, called the myelin sheath, is mainly composed of lecithin. The nervous system is affected by the breakdown of the fatty covering of the nerves, so taking lecithin in a supplement helps to nourish the fatty sheaths covering the nerve fibers. Thiamine is a B Vitamin that has effects on all of the body's tissues, the most sensitive being the nerves and stomach.

Calming Formula
review by pocket rock
My two year old lab is way overly energetic. I gave her the treat and she definately showed signs of calming down, (a little). These will be great for road trips and in the evenings when she's not ready to go to bed, but I am.
PSC has very friendly, helpful customer service and always ships on time. (Posted on 3/28/12) -
Help for my fearful dog
review by Lassiegirl
I adopted a collie who is extremely fearful and started giving him PetsPrefer Calming Formula to help him relax - anxiety 24/7 just can't be any fun. Over time Rusty made good progress becoming more at ease to get close to me and to do things that he was once too afraid to do. Since his progress occurred over time I did not know how much of it was due to my working with Rusty and how much, if any, was due to PetsPrefer Calming Formula.
One day when I ran out of the calming formula I didn't think there was a big hurry to re-order and forgot about it. It didn't take long before Rusty had a HUGE setback. Setbacks happen and he generally recovers quickly but this one was much worse than any other and he did not recover but instead continued to get worse. He was back to spending his days in hiding under the desk. Then I remembered he hadn't been getting the calming formula for a while so I quickly placed an order. I was happy that, like with previous orders, this order arrived super fast! In just a few days back on PetsPrefer Calming Formula, Rusty was becoming much calmer and was coming out of his hiding place more and more. He still has some anxiety but the calming formula reduces it dramatically.
It is so sad to see Rusty in constant fear. He will likely need to take something for anxiety for the rest of life so I'm glad to know that PetsPrefer Calming Formula is effective, safe, and inexpensive. We will never allow our supply to run out again and Rusty will never suffer so much anxiety again. (Posted on 1/20/12) -
Calming Formula for Dogs for Thunderphobic dog
review by CLMcDan
This product is being used as an alternative to help our adopted dog, Addie, through her fear of thunder and other loud noises. This product seems to contain the best combination of herbs and supplements that relieve anxiety and stress and the least amount of inactive ingredients. This product has also been the most effective for her anxiety and stress and our budget. Because the product is all natural she can have them as "treats" through the day and while it's NOT "cure" for her fear IT DOES help her stay calm enough to allow us to "console" her during a storm. I would recommend this product versus the alternative of medication but also in combination with behavior modification. Please note we use this product almost daily but during a storm or loud events dress he in her Thundershirt, too. (Posted on 11/16/11)

This has helped so much...
review by T.H.
My dog Claire was adopted from a shelter that rescued her from a puppy mill. She is some kind of poodle mix, so she needs to be groomed, but when we got her, it was almost impossible because she was so traumatized. I did some research on natural calmers, and tried a few. One of them almost totally knocked her out, which really scared me, and I was going to get a prescription from the vet when a friend told me about this supplement. It is such a big help. I give it to her before her grooming appointments, and it works perfectly. It took a little trial and error to get the timing down just right, but now that we do, I will never bring her in wothout it. It works miracles. (Posted on 5/11/11)
