How to Use:
STEP 1: Perform the “Initial Fitting and Conditioning” as described below.
STEP 2: When an anxiety trigger is likely or already present (e.g. thunderstorm
approaching) slip the Thundershirt onto your dog. Observe the results. Many
dogs need no further treatment for many anxiety types. Are you satisfied with
the improvement you see? If not, please proceed to Step 3 below.
STEP 3 (Not Required In Many Cases): If your dog’s anxiety still needs additional
treatment, we recommend integrating Thundershirt into a training program.
Initial Fitting & Conditioning
Thundershirt is designed to be very easy to put on and take off… no need for pulling anything over her head or threading her legs through leg holes.
After you first receive your Thundershirt, we recommend the following steps while your dog is NOT feeling anxiety:
1. Before putting Thundershirt on your dog for the first time, offer a small food treat to your dog using the folded Thundershirt as a “plate”. Dogs typically become more comfortable and trusting of something that “brings” them food or anything that they associate with food. So this is an easy little trick to quickly create a positive association with Thundershirt for your dog.
2. Next, simply follow the “Fitting Instructions” . Leave Thundershirt on for 5-10 minutes. Following these simple instructions allows you to learn exactly how to use Thundershirt while the dog is calm and helps to avoid the risk that she might begin to associate Thundershirt with what bothers her. It can also be beneficial to put Thundershirt on every 4-to-8 weeks in the absence of anxiety. To further strengthen positive associations with Thundershirt, provide a treat to your dog each time right after you put it on. Most Thundershirt dog owners report that their dogs really enjoy wearing their Thundershirts, and many dogs even go on their own to where their Thundershirts are stored when a storm approaches or some other anxiety trigger happens!
Finding the Right Size:
Thundershirt comes in seven different sizes… XXL, XL, L, M, S, XS, and XXS. See the table to find the right size for your dog. Like people, dogs come in many different shapes and sizes, so if your dog has unusual proportions, you may need to go up or down a size versus the “standard” measurements. takes the edge off
Both of my dogs are very willing to wear their thundershirts. They still show some anxiety/stress during a storm, but seem to be more independent and show a more moderate level of concern. They can go lie down quietly instead of literally shaking or drooling or trying to climb on you. The thundershirts didn't work a miracle for us, but do seem to calm the dogs and make them more comfortable. Would recommend.
can't believe this actually worked....
but it did!! I have a rescue that was thought to be a victim of the midwest tornadoes in April, 2011. He is petrified of storms. I figured I only had $40 to lose and I had heard good things, so I bought the thundershirt with a GOOD deal of skepticism. Wow was I wrong! The pacing, panting and hiding stop as soon as I put this thing on (when a storm hits). He is still on "high alert" but he is visibly more content. I'm a believer!
wish I had thought of it, Honest to DOGness
Once in awhile you REALLY wish you had thought of a product, because its so fantastic! our dogs do Not suffer from the noise related or separation induced "TRIALS" we see in others pets, but lets face it, they ARE suffering!
Along comes a Thundershirt, and if I had not bought one AND gifted it, I don't know IF I would have believed it! most places guarantee IF they fail your pet, they will take them back.

Fantastic Product!
I was skeptical about this product, but my vet assured me that he never had anyone return one to him. My little Mini Schnauzer is spooked by thunder and lightening, fireworks, things dropping on the floor, the noise my paper shredder makes, and sometimes things I do not even hear or see. Once I put the thunder shirt on him he seemed so at ease. He was lying on his bed near the paper shredder, and his dog door, so I thought this would be the ultimate test. I turned on the paper shredder, and saw that his bed was empty, and assumed he when out the door like he normally does. I was so disappointed, until I turn around an saw that he was standing next to me watching me shred paper. I was sold! Now, when Willie is feeling a bit anxious, he actually goes to the thunder shirts, looks at it and looks at me, until I finally put it on. Absolutely AMAZING!!!! I would also like to add that since getting the thunder shirt, Willie is a much calmer dog even when he is not wearing the shirt. A great big THANK YOU to whomever came up with this product.
Thundershirts Rock!
I have two thundershirts for my Chi's and they do work! My dogs get very stressed out when going to the vet and I put on their thundershirts before leaving for their vet visit. They are much calmer in the waiting room and during their physical exams. I also plan to use the shirts during thunderstorms storms and when traveling, both which make my Chi's anxious. The thundershirt is also great for keeping your dog warm during a chilly walk outside. This product is well-made, contures well to a dog's body, and is comfortable! The fabric is soft and I have found that the sizing chart is correct. I highly recommend this great product.
Moderate anxiety control noted
Though the affect wasn't as extreme as what they show on their website, i have noticed that it does seem to help my dog remain calmer in situations where he would have been very hyper active and anxious before.
