How can you fix chronic diarrhea?
Lucy is a 3 year old Retriever. I love her to death, but she has chronic diarrhea, which is really difficult to deal with all of the time. How can we fix this problem? She went on my wife's new rug, and my wife was livid. I don't know what's going to happen if there's another accident.

How long has this been happening? You might need to take her to the vet to get a diagnosis. There are a lot of remedies for diarrhea, but it depends on why she's having it.

It's been happening for at least two months, when we first got her. We did take her to the vet, and it's not parasites or anything like that. I don't think they know why.
Well, if it's not something like that, there are a few things you can do. The first thing is that you should put her on a 24 hour fast to help reset everything. Next, start feeding her food slowly. You might want to feed her potatoes and ground beef at first because it's easy to digest. Probiotics would probably help too.

If she's had it since you got her, it might be because you are feeding her a different food. I would recommend the fasting thing too, and then maybe give her something with lamb and brown rice because those foods are supposed to be easier to digest.

Has she had it since she was a puppy? Maybe it's stress or diet related. Probiotics can help.

We just got her a couple of months ago, so I'm not sure how long it's been going on.

There can be many reasons for chronic diarrhea, and possibly taking your pet to the vet would be a great thing to consider. Until then, you probably would find that a daily probiotic will help in any case of intestional upset, and they are extremely affordable. Try something like the Intelliflora, which is wonderfully priced and very palitable for your pet! Hope this was helpful!

Thanks fpr your answers, everyone. I did the fasting thing and also started her on Intelliflora when I started her back on her food, and it worked! She's such a good dog. Everything is going relly well, and my wife loves her now too.
