How can I protect my dog's paws in the winter?
I like to cross country ski, and I just got a dog named Pepper. His last owners said that he loves to run in the snow. I read online that it's important to keep his paws protected in the winter, and I'm wondering if anyone has tried anything and whether or not it worked. They have a lot of different things, but I don't want to waste my money if it doesn't help.

Hi, Robert. I ski too, and it's really important to keep the hair in between your dog's toes trimmed well. If it's too long, it collects the snow and can make balls that are painful. I also moisturize his paws with a paw balm when we get back. There are a lot of different kinds, and they seem to use basically the same ingredients.

Robert, You are correct as it is very important to keep Pepper's paws protected in the winter. Especially from the harsh salt/chemical, and any potential snow build-up. One product that works well for this purpose is PSCPets.com Paw Balm. This product is all natural and helps keep the moisture in the pads, while keeping the harsh chemicals off the skin. It also is very helpful in the summer to protect the pads agaisnt the hot pavement as well.

This product will not stain clothing, furniture, or floors. Plus, we do have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all PSCPets.com Brand products!

I was skeptical too. It seems weird to put shoes on a dog, but after reading about road salt, I decided it was important enough to try. I bought a ser of Hott Doggers boots, and they worked really well. They were easy to get on and off, and after she got used to them, Lola seemed to like them. We have way fewer problems with matting around her paws now.

My groomer recommended shoes. She said that once they get used to them, they work really well. They have special kinds for athletic dogs.
