How to stop my dog from eating his own... poop :(
So my dog has developed a really lovely habit of eating his own poop, it just started about 2 weeks ago. Now when we go outside for a potty break I stand right by him and wait for him to go so that I can get it right away, however this is becoming really time consuming. It's getting to the point where he won't go and I won't leave, but eventually I have to leave him out there because I can't stand there waiting for him to poop all day, (fenced yard) and sure enough, no poop to clean up. Any thoughts, suggestions, breath mints? Thanks!

Hello Sylvia,

When dogs eat their own or another dog's feces this is called copophagia and is actually somewhat common. A really great product for this problem is called Stop Eating Poop and is quite effective. I manage the blog here at Probioticsmart.com and would like to also point you in the direction of a blog post that explains more about this topic: Coprophagia: Why Dogs Eat Poop and How to Stop the Behavior. Good luck and let us know how things go for you.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

This is known is coprophagia. You can give your dog a supplement that makes his poop smell unappetizing.

We've had this same problem and my vet recommended the Coproban. We used it for months and had no result, bought coprophagia deterrent instead, and seen a huge difference.
