What supplements can I give my kitty for her kidney disease?
My Rosie was diagnosed with chironic kidney disease. I am looking for supplements that will help prolong her health.

Really sorry to hear that Bev :( I am going to suggest Azodyl which uses probiotics to reduce the toxin buildup in the intestines and bloodstream of pets with chronic kidney disease. I'm sure you are working with your veterinarian on this, so run this past him and see what his take is on it. Good luck to you and Rosie.

I also have a renal disease kitty so I know what you're going through.  I've been using Epakitin for years now and I have seen the changes in her kidney values (bloodwork) to back it up.  Azodyl is also great but less convienent: you have to give the pill whole and keep it refrigerated. Epakitin is a powder you mix into the food and it's shelf stable.

Don't get confused though, they work differently and it would be useful to speak with your vet first to see which is the better treatment for your cat.  She should also be on a special diet for kidney disease (Hills K/D, Purina NF, etc) and she should avoid high protein treats (dried fish flakes, 100% meat treats like freeze dried chicken or liver, etc).  Once again, your vet should be able to give you dietary guidelines if you call them.

Good Luck!
