Why does my dogs urine make my grass brown?

This problem is how and why I came this site! My vet recommended Lawn Protection supplement for my dog, it's a supplement that naturally neutralizes the pH of dog urine. It works...the brown spots in my yard went away last year. I'll be keeping my dog on this supplement throughout the grass growing season.

I trained my dog to "go" in one spot where we don't have nice grass to ruin, there are ferns and clovers that cover the area and seem to be resistant to dog pee.

High concentrations of nitrogen cause discoloration in grass. There is nitrogen in dog pee, and if you use fertilizers for your lawn there is also nitrogen in that. The combined amount of nitrogen in both the dog urine and in the fertilizer can cause a reaction, or "burning," of your lawn. Also, if your dog's urine is highly acidic or alkaline, it can alter the pH of the soil and adversely affect the grass.
