What is the healthiest kind of cat litter?
I just got a Himalayan, and I have heard that some kinds of litter can encourage respiratory problems. I want to be especially careful, as this breed is prone to difficulties anyway. Can anyone recommend a healthy and effective litter? Thanks

Whatever you do, don't use clay. The dust is terrible. ALso, most clay litters have chemicals masking the smell, which can also be really bad for your cat.

Yes, all of the chemicals in the litter are injested by your cat when she cleans herself, so definitely use an all-natural one. I use Swheat Scoop. It's easy to find in a lot of stores, even the regular grocery.

Really? I have never had a problem with clay litters. Also, they have way less dust than most other kinds. Maybe the chemicals aren't good, or whatever, but if your worried about his respiratory system, clay is definitely the best choice.

I use green tea cat litter. It doesn't smell like anything, and it's really good at breaking down the odor. It uses natural enzymes. Some natural litters smell weird, like corn or pine. Also, this is really low dust. It's made by Next Gen pet products.

I looked that up, and it seems kind of expensive.
Well, it is compared to regular litters, but it uses much higher-quality ingredients. It lasts forever though. It clumps really well, and another thing is that all of the urine goes into the bottom and the top of the littr stays dry. I guess that helps with the smell too.

Here's a good article on clay litters:

I use World's Best for multiple cats, and I've never had any problems.

I use World's Best too, and I love it. It even works with my self-cleaning litter box.

We would recommend Worlds Best Cat litter which uses all natural whole-kernel corn to deliver superior odor and clumping control. Flushable and septic safe making it easy to dispose of, this litter absorbs of odors naturally instead of masking it with scented oils or other synthetic scents!

I would never use corn litter considering that 90% of corn is GMO. I wouldn't want my cat to ingest this kind of dangerous product

Here's another good website on different kinds of natural litters:

This is a really good website, and here's a link to its section on litter. It's written by a vet, and she recommends clay. Just another perspective...

I have a friend who uses the Breeze litter system, and he loves it. He says that there is no dust, and no odor. He recommends it to everyone.
